Through Crane Land

Wide fields and small villages characterize the coastal foreland of the Vorpommerische Boddenlandschaft National Park. Cranes rest here in the spring and autumn by the thousands to build up strength for their continuing flight. And even in summer, without the birds of luck – which have long since migrated on to Scandinavia – this bike route offers incomparable impressions with its views of the Barther and Kubitzer Bodden. The harbor of Barhöft is the northernmost mainland location on the Vorpommern Baltic coast and offers a unique view over the Vorpommern island landscape from the viewing platform 40 meters above sea level. An absolutely worthwhile detour! The crane information center in Groß Moordorf is another excursion tip on this route and is located directly on the route. Informative display boards, audiovisual media, and specimens provide insight into the life of the impressive large birds.
