The popular "classic" leads to the Main. The extensive route goes from Walldürn to Hardheim, through the Erfa Valley continuing to Miltenberg on the Main and back to the starting point via Amorbach and the Marsbach Valley.

This route is very popular among local cyclists. Especially in the high summer, the green valleys of Erfa and Marsbach offer pleasantly shaded cycling, and the promenade along the Main in Miltenberg allows you to enjoy an almost Mediterranean flair with views of the Main and the half-timbered town.

The route begins in Walldürn and leads into the Erfa Valley. From there, on the Erfa Valley Mill Cycle Path, it initially goes gently up and down past numerous historic mills and former mill sites, both informative and romantic, through the forest to Riedern.

Further on, the cycle path runs flat and easily into the Main Valley to Bürgstadt. Here the Erfa flows into the Main. The vineyards on Bürgstadt’s hills produce such good red wine that it is noted in the Gault-Millau Wine Guide. A visit to the local Churfranken wine shop is a must for wine connoisseurs. In any case – a tour around the little town should be planned. Seasonal wine taverns and wineries entice with a cool glass of wine and a snack between the well-maintained half-timbered houses.

On the way to Miltenberg, you can see the city’s tourist importance from the large excursion boats passing on the Main. Numerous restaurants, a romantic old town with medieval half-timbered houses, not to forget the world-famous “Schnatterloch,” the distinctive castle above the town, and all superbly located on the Mainschleife bend between the hills of Spessart and Odenwald attract visitors.

It’s more peaceful in Amorbach, although here too, winding streets and historic buildings such as the old town hall and the former Benedictine monastery enchant every visitor.

On the German Limes Cycle Path back to Walldürn, nature experience is again the main focus. Densely forested slopes line the Marsbach Valley, where the cycle path sections climb relatively steeply uphill to Walldürn.

Note: From Miltenberg, Amorbach, or Rippberg there is a train connection to Walldürn; bike transport is possible.
