Exciting circular route in the middle of East Frisian natural landscape
It is clearly the East Frisian mecca for nature lovers and cyclists: in fact, the Three Seas Path is surrounded by beautiful nature reserves, giving the circular route an incomparable charm. Along the idyllic route, signs with a route plan describe the paths easily navigable by bike, which form a varied approx. 15 km circular route between fields, meadows, and seas. This route is also excellent for persistent and nature-enthusiast hikers. Soon, the first special feature on the Three Seas Path route is reached. Here, the approx. 15 m wide Marscher Tief must be crossed and this is done by a small ferry called a "Pünte" in East Frisia. Everyone must lend a hand themselves because there is no ferryman; the passengers use muscle power and a large flywheel to move the floating platform to the other shore. Afterwards, cyclists continue amid a wonderfully beautiful natural landscape. The street names testify to the strong connection to nature of the inhabitants: Froschbißweg, Seerosenweg, and Igelkolbenstraße recall rare water plants that are still omnipresent here. Behind this settlement lies the Loppersumer Meer, the second and smallest of the three seas that gave their name to this beautiful cycling route. After a few kilometers, a second ferry crossing is reached, where again the Marscher Tief must be crossed, but this time over a much longer route because an inflow to the Großer Meer must also be overcome. For this, one is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Großer Meer: sailors, surfers, pedal boats, and paddlers share the huge water surface with stalking herons, quacking ducks, and loudly calling oyster catchers. About one kilometer further, lively activity is present, because besides a lively bathing beach, there is also the possibility to rent boats or surfboards and experience the Großer Meer on the water. And those who do not have their own bike can rent one here at the paddle and pedal station. The Three Seas Path is an easy route to cycle, even for inexperienced cyclists and children, the approx. 15 km is by no means too long and therefore manageable. Thoughtfully positioned, there are shelters or seating options at regular intervals that invite you to linger and rest. For the way from Emden to the Three Seas Path, there are two variants: 1. via the city forest towards Suurhusen, from Loppersum to the Three Seas Path. Or via Wolthusen, Uphusen to the Three Seas Path. You can also combine both well and possibly do without a Pünte.
The Three Seas Path is passable from April 1 to October 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
