Since 2015, the VC Concordia Windischeschenbach has also offered two mountain bike routes (45 km and 85 km) as part of its "Panoramic Route Upper Palatinate Forest" cycling tour. This route is inspired by the longer of the two routes. However, the worst sections were omitted, so the route should be suitable not only for mountain bikes but also for touring bikes. For the ascent from Grötschenreuth via Pfaben to the Waldhaus, sufficient fitness is required.

The route is laid out as a circular course and leads from Windischeschenbach to the Waldhaus, situated lonely above Pfaben in the forest, a former forester's residence where there is now a country inn (closed Wednesdays).

Besides the Steinwald, the Waldnaab valley and the Fichtelnaab valley are the scenic highlights of the route.

    Roadbook

The area around the Steinwald is woven with a dense network of cycle paths. In addition to various local cycle paths, the route also uses the regional cycle paths Fichtelnaab-Radweg, Steinwald-Radweg, and Egergraben-Radweg.

From Windischeschenbach, the route initially follows the MTB trail of the Panoramic Route up to about 1.7 km WNW of Püllersreuth. The Hessenreuther Forest is left behind to the left because it offers no scenic highlights.

The long climb from Grötschenreuth to the Waldhaus (370 meters elevation gain almost continuously) is compensated by a several kilometer-long descent on a well-developed forest road on the southern flank of the Steinwald.

From Friedenfels, the route passes the gloomy Haferdeck Mill, goes through Muckenthal to Kornthan, and then through the Wiesauer Forest via Seidlersreuth to Felkenberg on the Waldnaab. Passing the Hammer Mill and the Hammer Chapel, the path first goes uphill and then a longer descent (caution! There are also hikers and walkers here!) into the Waldnaab valley to the log cabin.

We leave the Waldnaab valley from the log cabin heading north past the "Butterfass" and the "Sauerbrunnen" and follow the forest road to Tannenlohe. From there, it goes via Ödwalpersreuth, Bernstein, and Pleisdorf to the Schweinmühle on the Fichtelnaab. From Schweinmühle, it is only a few kilometers on the Fichtelnaab cycle path back to the starting point of the route.
