A bike route through the Říčky natural park up to the flatter area belonging to the Slavkov battle zone. Along the way, you will find diverse landscapes and villages with rich histories.
The starting point of the route is the town of Šlapanice. At Masaryk Square, you can see the originally Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, baroque-renovated between 1750–1755. Next to it stands the scholasterium building, now home to the Brno Region Museum. Other monuments include a baroque castle from the mid-17th century, which served as a French field hospital during the Battle of Slavkov. From there, continue to the village of Podolí, whose unmistakable landmark is the Church of St. John of Nepomuk. Next, head to the village of Tvarožná. Along the way, you will see the natural monument Velatická conglomerate slope. The rare large-flowered pasqueflower also grows on these slopes. Tvarožná is among the richest Paleolithic sites in the country.
Every year, near the Santon hill, a historical reenactment of the Battle of Slavkov takes place during the battle's anniversary, which is a major attraction for history enthusiasts.
On the way, visit Mokré-Horákov, where the ruins of Horákov Castle lie above Muchova bouda. Ride along the Říčky stream, where there are many refreshment opportunities.
Author’s recommendation
In Mokrá-Horákov, there is a nice outdoor swimming pool open in the summer months, so if the weather and time allow, definitely stop here.

The starting point of the route is the town of Šlapanice. At Masaryk Square, you can see the originally Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, baroque-renovated between 1750–1755. Next to it stands the scholasterium building, now home to the Brno Region Museum. There is also a fountain with the Spiral of Life. Other monuments include a baroque castle from the mid-17th century, which served as a French field hospital during the Battle of Slavkov. Today it houses a grammar school. We continue to the village of Podolí. Its unmistakable landmark is the Church of St. John of Nepomuk from 1899; the local gallery exhibits sculpture works by local native R. Březa. Also remarkable is the large lime tree growing in front of the municipal office building. Following cycle route no. 5138, we head toward the village of Tvarožná. Along the way, we can admire the Velatická conglomerate slope natural monument. On its steep rocky slopes grow, for example, the rare large-flowered pasqueflower, dwarf iris, and Illyrian buttercup. The village of Tvarožná, located on the northern edge of the Slavkov battlefield, is one of the richest Paleolithic sites in the country. Attractions include the neo-Gothic Church of St. Nicholas from 1881 and a monument dedicated to the writer V. Kosmák. The carved so-called Kosmák Cross was erected above the alleged mass grave of soldiers fallen in the Battle of Slavkov. Every year near the nearby Santon hill at the battle anniversary, a historical reenactment of the Battle of Slavkov takes place, attracting many history fans. Members of all three participating armies meet here in period uniforms. Following cycle route no. 5131, we reach the village of Sivice with the Chapel of St. Roch. From there, we continue on cycle route no. 5133 to Mokrá-Horákov. There you can see three chapels from the 19th and 20th centuries dedicated to St. Barbara, St. Gothard, and the Transfiguration of the Lord. In the Mokrá part, a nice outdoor swimming pool is open during the summer months, so if the weather and time allow, we will definitely stop there. Then we continue riding on cycle route no. 5134, after about 2 km we join cycle route no. 5083 along the Říčky stream. On the promontory called Nad Muchovu boudou lie the ruins of Horákov Castle, which probably disappeared by the end of the 14th century. The eponymous buffet Muchova bouda offers refreshments. Another option for refreshments and accommodation is Kadlcův mlýn, which has preserved the basic character and footprint of the 1730s building. We continue along the Říčky stream back to Podolí and to Šlapanice.
