Šumava Czech-Austrian butterfly
The route, which has the shape of butterfly wings on the map, will lead you from Frymburk around the Lipno Reservoir, across the border into Austria, and back along the Schwarzenberg navigation canal.
From Frymburk, you cross the Lipno Reservoir by ferry to Frýdava, from where you head towards the hill Vítkův kámen. On it is the ruins of the castle of the same name from the 13th century, which served as a border guard post during World War II. Below Vítkův kámen, you will find a resting area with a parking lot and a bistro; in the settlement of Svatý Tomáš, there is a former hunting lodge that now serves as a hotel with a stylish restaurant. Through the Sv. Tomáš nature park and along the Horský Brook Nature Reserve, you will reach Pasečná and turn to the state border to the Austrian St. Oswald and further to Aigen. In both towns, you will find charming churches and tourist facilities. The route then leads to the Moldaublick lookout tower near the village of Schöneben. There are resting places and a refreshment stand nearby. A little west of Moldaublick is another lookout tower - Alpenblick. The route then turns back towards the Czech state border and to the Schwarzenberg Canal, then to Soví vrch and to the shore of the Lipno Reservoir. Along its shore, you return to Frýdava and then by ferry back to Frymburk.
Author’s recommendation
In Frymburk, a short distance from the ferry station, there is a public beach where you can pleasantly refresh yourself after the end of the trip.
