You start from the parking lot, riding about 100m along the parking lot access road to the ramp to the canal. There you cycle on an asphalted path directly next to the Mittelland Canal to the Hohenwarthe double-pool lock. Before you start the return trip, you can make a detour to the Niegripp lock. Returning to the double-pool lock, you cross it to get to the other side of the canal. There, immediately on the canal, a segregated bike path on the other side of the canal leads you back to the "Waldschänke" exit near the trough bridge. You now ride alongside the canal bank to the trough bridge, which you pass parallel and very close to the Elbe underneath. After a small climb, you reach the parking lot at the "Hotel zur Trogbrücke" – the starting point of your short circular ride.
Seating is available along the way for resting.

You start from the parking lot, riding about 100m along the parking lot access road to the ramp to the canal. There you cycle on an asphalted path directly next to the Mittelland Canal to the Hohenwarthe double-pool lock. The lock system forms the southern end of the Mittelland Canal section Sülfeld-Hohenwarthe. A short continuation over the Elbe to visit the side lock and the Rothensee boat lift is recommended.
