Visit Småland
Beautiful circular route through mostly flat terrain from the coast to the inland of Småland
From the picturesque archipelago coast, this bike route takes us through the surroundings of the town of Torsås and a typical Småland forest and meadow landscape. We pass many small villages with a long tradition of handicrafts; red and white Swedish houses shape the scenery.
The starting point for the route is the town of Bergkvara, where several overnight accommodation options are available. The former importance of the port town is still evident today in the maritime museum. The harbor itself is also worth a visit; from there, boat trips to the nearby lighthouse island of Garpen are possible, for example.
Author’s recommendation
The archipelago coast near Bergkvara is the habitat of a large seal colony. On a seal safari starting in the harbor, you get very close to the animals.

We start our bike route in the small harbor town of Bergkvara. Along the archipelago coast, we initially cycle north through several small villages. In Gunnarstorp, we leave the coast and turn left. Passing a golf course and crossing over the E22, we reach Söderåkra. We pass through the town and turn northwest. We cycle straight through the open forest for about 12 km, then in the small village of Strömby, we turn left towards Törnemåla.
We follow the signage of the Slöjdleden gently uphill through the now denser forest. We go through the village of Gullabo, then continue west to Skruvemala. Shortly after the first houses of the town, a road branches sharply left to the southeast. We follow it to Hästmahult, where we turn right. At Fagerhyltan we cross the country road and continue about 2.5 km to a crossroads. Here we turn left; a few hundred meters later, our path turns right towards Hallasjö. Now about 20 km of lonely forest paths lie ahead of us. We always follow the Slöjdleden signage to Torsås, passing only a few meadows and smaller farms along the way.
We leave the town of Torsås heading south. Soon after the last houses, a small road branches left. We follow it for almost 2 km, then meet the country road to Bergkvara, which brings us back to our starting point.
