Dolní Kounice -> Želešice -> Rajhrad -> Dolní Kounice
The ancient town of Dolní Kounice offers a large number of monuments from various periods. Probably the most significant monument is the ruin of the Rosa coeli monastery. The monastery was founded in 1181 for the sisters of the Premonstratensian order. On the hill behind the town, we will see the chapel of St. Anthony from 1757, to which a Stations of the Cross with 14 stops leads. As a counterpart, the extensive silhouette of an accessible castle towers on the opposite hill. From the town, we set off along the Brno cycling route through Nové Bránice and Moravské Bránice to the village of Silůvky. Here we connect to cycling route no. 5172 and ride to Prštice, where there is a manor house from 1702 serving the needs of the municipality. Then we continue to the village of Radostice, where we leave the existing cycling route and connect to the Bobrava cycling route. This brings us to the attractive area of the Bobrava nature park, which is formed by the valley of a meandering creek. This gives us a view of meadows and forests in the river floodplain with several old mills. Between Radistický and Spálený Mlýn awaits us the most natural and romantic section of the valley, which we travel through on a worn narrow path. However, after rain this section is quite muddy. In the village of Želešice, we connect to the Brno cycling route, along which we arrive at Rajhrad. In the town, we can visit the Benedictine monastery, founded already in 1048 on the site of a Great Moravian fortress. The originally Romanesque building with a three-nave basilica was rebuilt into a Baroque church of Sts Peter and Paul between 1722–1739 according to the design by J. B. Santini, and later the convent and prelature buildings were added. The premises of the monastery house the famous accessible library and the Memorial of Literature in Moravia. From here, we travel along cycling route no. 404 through Syrovice, Bratčice, and Němčičky to Pravlov. From the village, we return along the Brno cycling route back to Dolní Kounice.
Author’s recommendation
Nedoporučuje projíždět údolí Bobravy po věstších deštích. Trasa bývá velmi blátivá.
