The Rottachsee lies between Moosbach and Petersthal. The leisurely Rottachsee circuit mostly runs close to the shore. You pass beautiful bathing spots and two recreational facilities. The gravel path runs along cattle pastures and moss areas and offers wonderful views of the Grünten (1738 m), the guardian of the Allgäu.

    Moosbach – Petersthal – Moosbach

You start this route in the municipality of Moosbach at the parking lot next to the sports ground and cycle down Rottachstraße to the lake. After a short time, you pass a Marian grotto located on the left side of the path. In a boulder of Nagelfluh rock is the Mother of God of Lourdes.

You leave Rottachstraße and now follow the white-green cycle path sign No. 22, which you use for orientation throughout the whole route. Turn left onto the lakeside cycle path along the Rottachsee. Soon you reach the "small bathing lake" at the water's edge, inviting a short jump into the cool water. A strip of land separates the small pond from the main lake. You continue cycling, following the path northwards. Along the shore, numerous beautiful photo motifs await you. Occasionally glancing back, the guardian of the Allgäu, the Grünten (1738 m), rises behind the lake.

After the "Still corner", a wayside cross, the path goes slightly uphill. Finally, you circle the narrow northern lake outlet. Here an inconspicuous brook, the "Rotwässerle", feeds the Rottachsee. You pass the Reutermoos, which hides a small lake, the Kesselsee. Almost effortlessly, you cycle to the so-called forelake with kiosk, lawn, and bathing area. This offers a chance to rest, or you can ride a few more minutes until you reach the recreational facility in Petersthal. This offers a playground, sports facility, sailing harbor, bathing area, kiosk, and boat rental.

The route now takes you through a wooded section to the southern end of the lake. There you cross a dam. A small hydroelectric power station produces electricity for about 400 households. Additionally, the Rottachsee serves to regulate the water levels of the Iller and Danube rivers. You are almost at the end of the route. Those who saved their refreshment for last are well catered for at the Moosbach recreational facility, which you pass next: bathing area, Kneipp facility, kiosk, and plenty of play options ensure the perfect conclusion. You reach the parking lot again via Rottachstraße. The path runs briefly along the lake and then turns left, gently uphill back to the starting point of your route.
