Touristikgemeinschaft Odenwald
A tour for nature and culture enthusiasts. Fantastic panoramic views over the Buntsandstein Odenwald, the magical silence in the elevated villages, a rushing descent into the idyllic Gabelbach valley, and the "jewel box" Amorbach with its magnificent baroque buildings such as the abbey church and monastery complex are the attractions.
The lush green of the mixed forests and the typical red of the sandstone, with which the houses and buildings in the villages and towns of the eastern Odenwald were built, are the dominant colors on this tour.
Initially, ride straight through the residential area "Walldürn Süd" past the Marienkirche and the sports field into the forest. After about 700 m, the path slightly turns to the left and runs for a few meters along the forest edge, then through fields towards Hainstadt. On the way, the route passes clay pits that supply the material for the roof tile manufacturer based in Hainstadt here at the foothills of the eastern Odenwald.
At the outskirts of Hainstadt, it is advisable to turn into the village and take a slight detour to catch a glimpse of Hainstadt Castle. Continue via the Marienhöhe towards Buchen. There, the route meets the Odenwald-Madonnen-Radweg, which passes by Lake Holler and leads to Hollerbach. Here awaits the cyclist the steepest climb of this tour. In one kilometer, about 100 meters of elevation have to be climbed - but then you are practically almost "at the top" and can enjoy great views over the Odenwald from the heights between Langenelz and Preunschen.
While Mudau is a lively town with corresponding infrastructure, Donebach, Mörschenhardt, and Preunschen hardly beat the typical rural idyll. The village images are characterized by red sandstone buildings. Nature abounds around the cyclist.
At Preunschen, the path sharply turns west and leads through the shady Odenwald down to Ottorfszell in the Gabelbach valley. In the valley, the route initially runs on the country road and from Kirchzell then on the bike path to Amorbach.
At first glance, Amorbach invites you to a discovery tour. Coming from the bike path, you ride directly towards the princely abbey church. Not far from there is another impressive baroque church. In the winding alleys of the listed old town, architectural treasures and gems lie side by side. The "goodbye" after a long walk will probably not remain empty words.
The route follows the Drei-Länder-Radweg through the Marsbach valley via Schneeberg and Rippberg, passing the Beuchertsmühle and the ecological observation enclosure near Walldürn.
Alternative: Those who still have energy in Rippberg leave the main route into a side valley, the Hornbach valley. Past mill meadows, it goes up again to Hornbach and from there in a beautiful descent to the historic Lambach pump (visits are possible as part of a booked tour). A forest path gently climbs back to Walldürn, the starting point of this tour.
