Railway cycle paths in the Eifel: Eifel-Ardennes Cycle Route
In the cross-border low mountain range region Eifel, several cycle paths run completely or partly along former railway tracks.
Eifel-Ardennes Cycle Route (railway section): Living railway history ROUTE: 36.2 km, 289 m ascent, moderate The route runs from Prüm to the Belgian St. Vith along the former Westeifel railway line, built during the imperial era and now closed. It offers many wide views of the landscape and a touch of railway romance, for example through a detour to the small open-air railway museum. It continues along the Alf and Ihrenbach rivers over numerous bridges, through meadows and forest landscapes. Behind Bleialf, where the Weltenbummler restaurant with beer garden in the former station building invites for a break, you pass through a 400-meter-long railway tunnel, closed in winter to protect bats. A bridge across the Our river leads to Belgium, where a short section of low-traffic country road must be ridden. Then you cross the picturesque Our valley and soon reach the small town of St. Vith, where there is also a connection to the Rennbahn cycle route.
