Rail trail cycle paths Eifel: Nims cycle path
Several cycling routes run completely or partially along former railway tracks in the cross-border low mountain range region of the Eifel.
Nims cycle path: gently hilly route with a detour to the beer town ROUTE: 61.9 km, 841 m ascent, medium The path starts at the source of the river Nims, running gently hilly and featuring sporty uphill sections especially on the more than 20 kilometers from Lasel to the beer town Bitburg. Initially, the route goes through the nature reserves Niesenberg and Schönecker Schweiz with the rock formation Schönecker Dolomite and over the heights of the Hardtwald. Between Seffern and Bickendorf, a detour must be taken due to the 2021 flood disaster. The tour continues to the beer town Bitburg, where the Bitburger experience world is worth a visit. The last approximately 20 kilometers from Bitburg to Irrel on the border with Luxembourg run along a former track of the Nims-Sauertal railway – and are thus largely flat. The destination is the Irrel mill, where the Nims flows into the Prüm. There is a connection to the Prüm cycle path.
