    Roadbook

Start and finish: Picnic spot at the Panorama Spot north of the Landau Chapel (No.1)

From there, you go past the viewpoints, down the hill by Wagner Ranch with the option to stop for refreshments. Then follow the cycle path towards Insheim. There you can also take a detour to the picnic spot at the Fischerhütte Insheim (No.2) between Insheim and Herxheim, or continue cycling directly to the beautiful wine village Insheim to the Zeppelinplatz with a fountain and benches in the town centre (No.3)

From Insheim, follow the cycle path to the railway station at Rohrbach. There you can take a break in the beer garden or restaurant and also stay overnight. Nearby you will find the beautiful picnic spot at the wild herbs nature trail with many wild herbs from the region (No.4), or a little further on the barbecue area with picnic benches and table (No. 5). From Rohrbach, the Klingbach cycle path takes you back to Herxheim, where on the right-hand side at the entrance to the town you can discover the newly created biodiversity area (No.6). “Something is blooming for us in Herxheim!” was honoured by the UN as a model project. On many display boards you will find information about native plants, a bee hotel, etc. The route continues along the bypass on the cycle path in the direction of Hayna through the forest.

Just at the entrance to Hayna, a cycle path branches off to the Marienkapelle, where there is a shady and beautiful picnic spot (No. 8). If you like, you can visit the picturesque former tobacco village with its sheds and linger in the town centre at the village square next to the Hotel “Zur Krone” (No.7). There is excellent cuisine and nice rooms for overnight stays, as well as at the Duwa hotel a few metres further on.

From Hayna, you cycle back towards Herxheim to the town centre, where you will find the beautiful park of Villa Wieser with its cozy trees (No.9) or the park at the House of Encounter (No.10). Here you will also find numerous shopping opportunities and restaurants as well as cafes. The route continues along the Klingbach cycle path to Herxheimweyher past the anglers’ pond, where you can calmly gaze over the water (No.11). In Herxheimweyher, where many tobacco sheds can still be found, the spots by the cattle trough Gäuleloch (No.12) and by the maple tree at the playground (No.13) invite you to take a rest. From Herxheimweyher, follow the chapel circular route past the Poor Souls Chapel towards Herxheim. There you pass the Speyer Chapel and cycle uphill to the Panorama Spot at the water tower (No.14) with a beautiful wide view. Then return via the cycle path to the Panorama Spot at the Landau Chapel, where your round trip started.

Picnic pick-up point is at the bakery Kerner, Eisenbahnstraße 6, in 76863 Herxheim tel. 07276-1411 or by email: baeckerei.kerner@t-online.de
