Information about the leisure & adventure mountain:

Above the village of Burgeis lies the small farming community of Prämajur. From there start the lifts that take us up to Watles. Watles, with the idyllic Pfaffensee, is considered the leisure & adventure mountain in the municipality of Mals and its surroundings. The many hours of sunshine make this mountain popular especially with families in both winter and summer.

One reason is probably the easy accessibility, the inspiring view into the Vinschgau valley, as well as the sight of the three mountain groups. To the northeast the Ötztal Alps, whose foothills form the Vinschgau. To the west rises the Sesvenna Group, which separates the Münstertal from the Ortler Alps, with South Tyrol’s highest mountain, King Ortler (3905 m). At the Plantapatschhütte at 1500 m a large playground with a wooden raft, waterfall, fun balls, and adventure slide has been created for visitors. A 3D archery range at 2200 m is ready for archers. The sun terrace of the Plantapatschhütte is probably among the most beautiful in the valley.

Special features: magnificent views, child-friendly atmosphere, popular hiking area for young and old.

    Author’s recommendation

A stop at the Plantapatschhütte with its spacious sun terrace and enjoying a good meal are essential parts of this route. For summit climbers, it is recommended to leave the bike at the hut and hike to the summit of Watles, (2555 m). Allow one hour for the ascent. This route can be an outing from Haidersee. It is marked there with No. 50.

    Roadbook

Start at the train station in Mals 1000 m. Follow the bike path to Haidersee and at the fork follow the signposts for the Pfaffensee route No. 50. A very well-maintained forest road takes bikers up above Platzer Alm. From the ruined shepherd's hut (2100 m) the path becomes a bit more demanding. Just before Pfaffensee there is a short push section. Immediately after Pfaffensee (2222 m) you reach the highest point of the route. On the descent to the hut and further down into the valley there are no technical difficulties.
