The 3-star certified Oder-Neisse cycle route (certified by ADFC) promises absolute pleasure cycling. Initially, the route follows the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthal waterway. After the Welse flows into the Oder, shortly behind Friedrichsthal, the bike path runs to Mescherin at the West Oder. The Oder forms the last completely intact floodplain landscape in Europe. Old arms, sedge meadows, reed beds, and floodplain forest shape the unique landscape and serve as a breeding, resting, or wintering place—a paradise for water birds. There is a lot to see here in every season. In September, huge flocks of cranes gather, a very special natural spectacle. The landscape is surprisingly varied and diverse. Most of the route runs through open floodplain landscape with wide views in all directions; there are sections with closed forests and even a valley resembling the low mountain ranges.
