A convenient starting point for the route on the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route is Angermünde with its historic old town. Access to the Oder valley is via the Uckermärkischer Radrundweg. After riding through the moraines east of Angermünde, a wide view opens up from the ramparts around the Stolper Tower into the Oder lowlands. Flat to the horizon stretch the floodplain forests of the Lower Oder Valley National Park, intersected by many dead arms of the river. A landscape that radiates tranquility. The tower, according to legend also called "Grützpott", is the landmark of the town. Its eventful history is closely linked to the castle built in the 12th century. The Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler Canal (HFW) was built at the beginning of the 20th century to drain the Oderbruch and to ensure navigation safety in the dry summer months.
