Route description
The start and end point of this route is at the Brunnentheater in Bad Helmstedt. This route is a circular route, so it can alternatively be started and ended at any other place on the described path.
The title of the route already indicates it: nature is the focus here. When bypassing the Helmstedt urban area, nature can be experienced in many different ways.
First, the former convoy road is explored, which presents a small challenge in the first 1000 m. Enjoyers push their bike here. Then the route continues on paved paths through the beautiful Lappwald past the two Walbecker watchtowers to the Schafteich (information board 1).
The route leads through the Stüh to Barmke to the organic farm Mollenhauer with its shop "Wilde Möhre" (information board 2).
The third information point, the Emma pit (stamp point 8) (information board 3), follows shortly after Barmke, and in Emmerstedt, the museum farm awaits a visit.
South of Emmerstedt, the Lübbensteine are reached, from where you have a magnificent view of the Elm and the Kaiserdom in Königslutter on a clear day.
Then the route goes through the fields towards Elz. After a short stretch on the cycle path along federal road 244, turn left into the renatured Tagebau Treue (information board 4).
A detour leads to the carp ponds about 600 meters away. Here, during a break observing birds and frogs, everyday life can be quickly forgotten.
Then continue to the Lappwaldsee (information board 5), the former Helmstedt open-cast mine, which is being developed into a leisure lake.
Pass the Magdeburger watchtower and reach Lappwald again, followed shortly by the nature experience point Mesekenheide (stamp point 7) (information board 6), which invites you to take a short break.
From here, a high path leads to the bridge over the Mühlenbach (information board 7), which is located at the former inner-German border.
It is now only about two kilometers to the starting point of your route at the Brunnentheater.
