Route description
The starting point of the route for the route description is at the town hall in Barleben. Since the route is planned as a circular route, it can be started at any point.
The route leads from the town hall along Breiteweg to the south. Upon reaching the Kleine Sülze, the direction changes to west and the route now follows natural paths along the Sülze.
The nature and village educational trail Barleben located there will impress you, and information boards provide comprehensive information.
From Barleben you cycle along an avenue to Ebendorf and then on the road-adjacent cycle path to the next intermediate destination Meitzendorf.
At the village exit, the Mittelland Canal is already visible from afar.
On reaching the canal, you must first change to the canal road running directly on the dam, heading west. After crossing the canal bridge, the route continues along the north side of the Mittelland Canal heading east.
With a wonderful view of Lake Jersleben, the section to the Rothensee ship lift begins. At the height of Glindenberg, the canal is crossed through a tunnel and continues to the lock settlement.
If you have time and desire, you should make a short detour to the waterway crossroads beforehand. On the north side, the trough bridge is crossed, then the Mittelland Canal is passed under and back on the south side to the Rothensee ship lift.
Right next to the ship lift is the Rothensee lock with its observation tower, from which you have an impressive view of the technical facilities at the lock here and can simultaneously enjoy the expanse of the region.
After being extensively informed about the lock facilities, you cycle around Barleben Lake II and in the summer months Barleben Lake I offers a chance for cooling down.
On the final stage, you cycle around Adam Lake and shortly afterwards the starting point of the route at the town hall in Barleben is reached again.
