We start in the charming pilgrimage town of Marienthal near Wesel. From the parking lot, the route goes over side streets, farm and forest paths, partly along the Issel river in a northeast direction to Raesfeld Castle. After a detour into the town, the return path leads through the small village of Erle and the Dämmerwald.
Author’s recommendation
Raesfeld Castle offers well-maintained gastronomy with a great atmosphere both indoors and on the terrace. There are also some good restaurants in Marienthal where you can comfortably end the route.
The old St. Mary’s monastery church is worth a visit, and around it there are interesting shops to browse items of arts and crafts and garden design.

We did the route in high summer and had some trouble with horseflies in the forest (those unpleasant biting insects). Appropriate protection with a repellent is certainly helpful.Tips and suggestions

I will save a detailed description of the route here, especially since the path allows several variations. I recommend orienting yourself using the map or a GPS device.

Equipment
I always recommend wearing a bicycle helmet! This route also partly leads over unpaved forest paths.Localization
