VisitDenmark
Unique landscapes, some hills to tackle, and idyllic villages characterize this stage.
The manor house route takes you through some of Funen’s most beautiful areas – a landscape shaped by cultural heritage, coast, and green spaces. This 60km stage starting in Odense is suitable as a starting point for a tour around the entire island along the 13 other stages.
On the overall 660km route, you cycle past magnificent castles, historic manor houses, and small stands by the roadside offering sun-ripened berries and fresh vegetables. Along the way, local bakeries tempt you with freshly baked bread, and small detours lead you to art, culture, and delicacies of Funen. You are always near forests, fields, and the South Funen Archipelago – and at the leisurely pace that characterizes Funen and the islands. It’s not just a route – it’s a journey through what makes Funen so special.
Author’s recommendation
Anyone interested in a small cultural detour should definitely visit the Hollufgård Castle and Sculpture Park south of Odense.

Roadbook
- Your route starts in Odense. Leave the city heading northeast and follow the bike path signs toward Munkebo. After about 10 kilometers, you reach the small town of Munkebo. Here, a short stop at Munkebo Bakke is worthwhile – a viewpoint overlooking the Kerteminde Fjord. There is a water point to refill your water bottle and a nice spot for a picnic.
- From Munkebo, continue toward Hindsholm, the peninsula stretching between Odense Fjord and Kerteminde Fjord. You ride through a quiet, agriculturally shaped area with little traffic. The roads are small, often lined with fields, and you will find small farm shops and roadside stands offering local products along the way.
- The further you cycle on Hindsholm, the more idyllic the landscape becomes. This region is one of the driest areas in Denmark – ideal for cycling and enjoyment. Watch out for Gut Schelenborg, a stately manor with a stud farm visible from the road. Gut Hverringe is also on your route shortly before you reach Kerteminde.
- Shortly before the destination, you have the possibility to make a detour southwards: The Hollufgård Castle and Sculpture Park is located south of Odense and is accessible via side paths. Here you can plan a short hike or a leisurely bike excursion through art and nature.
- In the charming coastal town of Kerteminde, you will find good restaurants, pretty accommodations, and the Baltic Sea.
