Bayerisches Thermenland
Isar, Vils and Danube accompany you on this approx. 120 km long route. Repeatedly there are opportunities to enjoy the river and floodplain landscapes but also to experience the 7000-year-long, uninterrupted settlement history of the region up close, for example in the Museum Quintana in Künzing, southeast of Osterhofen. Impressive is also the confluence of the Isar into the Danube near Moos, east of Plattling. In Vilshofen on the Danube, the Schweiklberg Abbey houses an Africa Museum.
Author’s recommendation
Museum Quintana in Künzing: For half a millennium, Künzing lay on the border of the Roman Empire. The fort that the Romans built in today's Künzing was part of the Bavarian Danube Limes. This river boundary extended from Bavarian Eining to the Black Sea. Since July 2021, the western segment of the Danube Limes, which extends from Bavaria to the Hungarian border, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage "Frontiers of the Roman Empire."
