Anyone who has only looked at the Hildesheimer Forest from the north will be surprised by how easy it is to cross at Diekholzen (towards Petze) and delighted by the view from its southern slopes over the Almetal. Although the section from Segeste to Sehlem does not have the smooth elevation profile you would expect along an ICE track but instead has large undulations—which demand considerable effort and caution due to right of way at some crossing roads—the rest of the route, now away from the ICE track but along a former railway embankment offering inviting rest spots (huts, etc.), is a pleasure. Lamspringe, with its monastery church and estate, is an attractive destination. Those who want to plan more can make the return trip via Wöllerhausen, Evensen, Bodenburg, Salzdetfurth, and Hildesheim with almost the same number of kilometers. Otherwise, just return along the same route. It is simply great.
I thought I had already published this route in September 2013. Today I realized that has not happened.

Attention:
Between Segeste and Sehlem, the route is wave-like. You tend to gain a lot of momentum downhill for the next ascent. However, you must observe the right of way at at least one of the crossing roads in the wave valleys. Make sure to alert accompanying children about this.
