Lacken, birds and pure nature as far as the eye can see on the Lackenradweg (B20)! Don't forget your binoculars!

A half meter deep, salty water and more than 80 of them: you simply must see the Lacken. These salty waters fluctuate between 70 cm depth and complete drying out according to the seasons. If you love nature, don't forget your binoculars:  More than 300 bird species can be extensively admired with them. On partly paved, partly gravelled paths you ride across the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel national park, past wetlands, pasturelands and the large Lacke.

A unique natural world awaits the nature lover along the Lackenradweg: salt pans are found in the European interior only in the Seewinkel and in Central Hungary. The Pannonian salt aster, glasswort, saltmarsh orach and sea rocket can be found here.

    Rare bird species

Typical inhabitants of the highly salty pans are avocets and little ringed plovers, which have their only breeding occurrences in Austria here. The shallow waters and their banks serve as feeding grounds for a wide variety of birds.

    Safety information

Since many cycle paths are agricultural estate roads, agricultural traffic should be expected there. Mutual consideration ensures that these paths remain pleasant to use for everyone.

    AUSTRIA

There is a mandatory cycle helmet requirement for children up to 12 years old. Reflective vests are not mandatory at dusk, darkness or in poor visibility, but certainly advantageous. Here is the Austrian bicycle regulation.

Podersdorf am See einkehren.
