Loop around the nature reserve "Königsbrücker Heide", which has officially been designated as a wilderness area since 2023.
A very special piece of nature awaits you in the west of Upper Lusatia. The regional train takes you in about 90 minutes from Bautzen to an extraordinary area: the Königsbrücker Heide. The former military training area is now an important nature reserve and recreation area.
On this route, you will circle the Königsbrücker Heide completely. Along the way, you will pass concrete relics of the Cold War: old bunkers, abandoned barracks, and an officers' casino. Nature has reclaimed the area, and the only "hunters" nowadays are wild boars and wolves.
Countless beautiful lakes also await you. Take your time to explore the Königsbrücker Heide off the beaten path and discover beaver lodges, the heath tower, and some historical relics.
