From the mountain exit of the Isar at Scharnitz via the Sylvenstein Reservoir, Lenggries and Bad Tölz, the Isar cycle route opens up the pre-Alpine area of the Oberland. Its route passes through the nature reserve “Pupplinger Au” as well as the state capital Munich, Freising, Moosburg, Landshut and Dingolfing and continues to Plattling and to the mouth into the Danube near Deggendorf. Mostly on paths close to the bank, free of traffic or lightly traveled, the Isar cycle route runs in its northern section from Wolfratshausen – making it also ideally suited for a family-friendly cycling experience.
In the XperBike area on the Isar cycle route, we experience the wide Isar floodplains from Mamming to Oberpöring and pass Landau a.d. Isar; there is a connection at the impressive “Bockerlbrücke” to the “Bockerlbahn cycle route” to Arnstorf and further to Postmünster and to the Rottal cycle path.
Landau itself impresses its visitors with its location on the high plateau and impressive Gothic and Baroque buildings and invites to an extensive short visit and rest stop. The detour to the Lower Bavarian Archaeological Museum is also worthwhile.
Tip: Near the Isar cycle route, you will find the natural monument “Growing Rock” in Usterling. With almost 40 meters in length and five meters in height, the rock is the largest occurrence of its kind in Bavaria.
