Iller breakthrough cycling route

You leave the marketplace heading towards Marktstraße, which you follow uphill. At the next intersection, turn right into Rothensteiner Straße towards Rothenstein/Legau. Follow the road past the sports field, then it goes uphill again and then downhill to Rothenstein. You pass through the hamlet and continue to Au, where you cross the Iller. On the other side of the Iller, the road goes uphill again until you reach a T-junction. There, turn left (signposted to Altusried) and follow the Iller cycling path. This leads you through Moos and Aumühle to Kalden. Shortly before Kalden, the path turns left. To enjoy the view of the Iller breakthrough from Upper to Lower Allgäu at the Kalden castle ruins, turn left shortly after Kalden to the hiking parking lot. The hiking trail to the castle ruins is signposted here; you can reach the castle ruins on foot in five minutes.

Back at the point where you turned off, follow the Iller cycling route to Altusried. In Altusried, a stopover to refresh is recommended. To do this, turn slightly right at the end of Kaldener Straße into Hauptstraße and follow it to Rathausplatz. At the end of the break, return to Kaldener Straße. Then turn into Flößerstraße (turn left coming from Kalden, turn right coming from Altusried) and follow the cycling signs towards Bad Grönenbach. At the end of Flößerstraße, turn right onto Alpenblickstraße and shortly afterwards left again. Follow the road until you reach the Iller again at Fischers. Cross the blue suspension bridge; on the opposite Iller side, it goes up the slope in switchbacks.

Follow the cycle path signs to the right, first along the edge of the forest and then through a woodland area until you reach an intersection shortly after the forest. Here, turn left and follow the signs towards Bad Grönenbach/Sommersberg. The road first leads you to Sommersberg, where the road then turns right towards Herbisried. At the next intersection, go straight ahead towards Herbisried/Bad Grönenbach. At the road junction in Herbisried, turn left and pass the fire station. Follow MN 24 until you reach the edge of the forest; here turn right (cycling sign Bad Grönenbach (forest path)). This forest path turns left shortly before the viewpoint "Kornhofer bench" and shortly thereafter turns right into the forest. At the end of the forest, turn left into Schützenstraße. At the end of Schützenstraße, you reach Kemptener Straße; turn left here and follow the road back to the marketplace.
