Tour description
The start and end point of this route is at Warberg Castle in Warberg. This is a circular route, so the route can alternatively be started and ended at any other location along the described path.
After a gentle warm-up through the town, the biggest challenge of the route awaits. On the Kißleberweg, the heights of the Elm must be climbed.
Once the highest point of the route (approx. 300 m) at the Haukhütte is reached, the path immediately goes downhill again. The Elm edge is reached at a brisk pace. Here, you have to brake hard once to take a break at the Brockenblick rest area. That much time must be taken to enjoy the wonderful view over the Heeseberg to the Harz.
The route then continues on low-traffic roads through Twieflingen and Dobbeln to Jerxheim, where the last elevation meters to the summit (200 m) of the Heeseberg are to be mastered.
Now follow the 77 steps up to the viewing platform of the Heeseberg Tower, built by Karl Kleye in 1912 (stamp point 27), to enjoy the impressive view.
To the south rises the Harz with its highest peak, the Brocken (1141 m). In front of it are two smaller ridges: the Huy to the east and the Große Fallstein to the west. To the north, the Elm, which is up to 323 meters high, forms the boundary of the panorama.
For those who want to explore the Heeseberg on foot, the Heeseberg Geo Trail offers a short hike.
Downhill, the route then leads back to Jerxheim, and then on through Söllingen and Hoiersdorf to Schöningen.
At the entrance to Schöningen, St. Lorenz Church (stamp point 28) with its Bible garden invites you to linger.
Arriving in downtown Schöningen, the castle, local history museum, St. Vincenz, history fountain, and water maiden are interesting destinations.
After the city tour, leave the town center through the castle and the route leads over the castle meadow and the Volkspark to the northern city outskirts.
Esbeck is passed through and shortly after, the Buschhaus turnoff is reached to then head west over the St. Ludgeri Südschacht back to the starting point in Warberg.
