Handbike route Tarvisio - Kranjska Gora (barrier-free)
A scenically beautiful cycle path, with moderate ascent from Tarvisio. Downhill from Kranjska Gora to Mojstrana.
Since there are no wheelchair-accessible toilets at Tarvisio Boscoverde station, we start above Tarvisio in Camporosso at the cable car and cycle four kilometers downhill to Tarvisio. Those who start at the station anyway can use a lift (suitable only for adaptive bikes) through the tunnel under the tracks to the cycle path.
The detour to Lago Fusine is indeed beautiful, but there is a one kilometer ascent, partly up to 17% on the road. The cycle path beside it is narrow, gravelled and also steep. Circumnavigating Lago Fusine with a handbike is not possible.
After the border to Slovenia, there are always great views of the Julian Alps and Slovenia's highest mountain, Triglav.
Kranjska Gora is a lovely little town, known for World Cup ski races. Another 12 kilometers downhill to Mojstrana. Here you will find two beautiful old iron bridges; at the first there is a public wheelchair-accessible toilet. The same route uphill can be easily cycled back.
Author’s recommendation
Radlerrast Kosobrin, just before Kranjska Gora, is a nice beer garden with ground-level toilets.
