Handbike route Drau cycle path Stage 2: Amlach near Lienz - Sachsenburg (barrier-free)
Before we continue the stage, we visit Lienz, known as the City of the Sun. In Lienz, we experience a southern flair and a spectacular backdrop of the Lienz Dolomites.
Our destination is Sachsenburg just before Spittal. A one-kilometer detour from the Drau cycle path leads to Lavant (Roman city Aguntum). Only the museum and part of the path are wheelchair accessible. Therefore, we continue cycling towards the Carinthian state border. Up to Dellach, we ride on well-rideable gravel, then it becomes hilly.
At the cyclists’ station Sandhof, we have lunch in the beautiful garden. The toilets are accessible by wheelchair only over 3 steps, very tight. Afterwards, it goes significantly uphill for the first time, 60 meters at at least 10%, barely manageable. Then wonderfully through forest and meadows slightly away from the Drau river to Amlach. Here back down to the Drau.
In Radlach near Steinfeld, detour of the Drau cycle path over the Radlach bridge. Further on the road without cycle path, uphill and downhill to Kleblach. In Kleblach, over the Drau bridge to Lind, here again on the official Drau cycle path, still 7 kilometers to Sachsenburg.
