The village of Hallstatt offers not only many scenic attractions but also a lot of historical significance. After all, an entire epoch is named after this place (Hallstatt period 800-450 BC) and the region belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage. It is worth obtaining more information at www.hallstatt.at.
The start and end point is Obertraun station. It is very suitable for travel by train or car. Parking spaces are available near the station for cars.
For your information: Hallstatt station is not located in the village but on the east shore. It is connected to the village by a ferry line.
Author’s recommendation
When passing through Hallstatt on the lakeside road, you must be considerate of the many tourists, noticeably from the Asian region. In good weather and with corresponding visitor traffic, it is therefore advisable to push your bike.
The route is suitable for the warmer season. On the Feast of Corpus Christi, Hallstatt is particularly busy because of the lake procession.
Those who wish can bring appropriate equipment for a swim in the lake. The bike tour passes beach baths and also small bathing spots on the east shore of the lake.

Roadbook
From Obertraun, take the bike path next to the state road into Hallstatt. The state road passes through tunnels near Hallstatt, which are closed to cyclists.
Ride through the village. At the northern part of Hallstatt, you reach the state road again. Follow it northwards (no bike path) to Steeg at the lake outflow of the Traun. Directly behind the railway crossing, the east shore path begins, which shortly joins the Salzkammergut bike path. At the height of the Seeraunzen inn directly by the lake, you have the choice: either push your bike 1.5 km along the lake (hiking trail, cycling prohibited) or follow the bike path with a short, steep climb. Both paths later rejoin. Continue over a spectacular suspension bridge structure (be considerate of pedestrians) to Hallstatt station. Here, briefly follow the descent to the boat dock and then turn left to return to Obertraun.
