Route Description
The Elderberry Cycle Routes are a network of 100 kilometers across the Hohe Börde.
All routes are marked with the violet elderberry pictogram on bright
green signposts. They mostly run over well-developed rural paths, safe local roads, and roadside cycle paths along state and federal roads.
The starting point of the route for the route description is at the Elderberry Office in Niederndodeleben at August-Bebel-Str. 14. Since the route is planned as a circular route, it can also begin at any other desired location.
From the Elderberry Office, the route heads south through the town and then northwest through the impressive Börde landscape. Very close to nature, there are many idyllic spots and “viewpoints” into the region here, with the cathedral in Magdeburg serving as a good point of orientation.
The rest stops in Bornstedt and Groppendorf invite you to take short breaks, and in Brumby, the detour to the somewhat hidden Elven Meadow is obligatory.
Passing the ecological pool in Nordgermersleben, the route continues to the Pear Avenue near Rottmersleben, shortly followed by the Elderberry Valley.
Upon arrival in Rottmersleben, the Church of St. James with its beautifully designed outdoor area will catch your attention.
In Schackensleben, you will notice the stork’s nest, which is surely occupied if you are traveling in the right season.
Further along the route, you come to the Hop Info House in Groß Santersleben and the Church of St. Lauritius in Hermsdorf.
The final leg of the route leads via Hohenwarsleben to Alt Olvenstedt and then back to the Elderberry Office in Niederndodeleben.
