    Author’s recommendation

The buckwheat pancake (also called Janhinnerk) used to be the food of poor people. However, it also played a role in courtship. When a farmer's son asked for a bride's hand, he was served a buckwheat pancake. It contained a secret message from his beloved: if there was an even number of bacon eyes, the bride was willing to marry; if the number was odd, the "application" was considered rejected. Today, the buckwheat pancake is no longer a poor man's meal but a specialty offered in better restaurants.

    Roadbook

Your tour starts in Veldhausen: From here, the route initially leads over low-traffic roads through the Vecht valley, past the nature reserve and the art paths stations Brüna's Heide, to Esche. Here, an "extraordinary" picnic spot invites you to rest with a view over the Vecht valley. Next, it goes to the oil production area Osterwald. Take a detour to the Oil Museum (on request). Here, the history of oil production in the region is explained. In the adjoining farmers' museum, you can learn about rural life. During your bike tour, discover the peculiarities of oil production. Information boards along the route allow you to learn about oil production on site. Then continue – perhaps with a detour – past the windmill in Georgsdorf – to an idyllic canal section up to the beautifully located Frenswegen Monastery, which is worth a visit. Along the border and through the Vecht valley, cycle back to Veldhausen to the Millyard, where you can finally admire the beautiful windmill in the mill park.
