Roadbook
From the VVV tower on Neumarkt in Nordhorn, you first ride over the historic lock at Vechtesee and then continue along the Vechte. On the way is the zoo, which is home to 1,700 animals from monkeys to zebras. The historic Vechte farm, the many enclosures, as well as the family attractions, are worth a detour. On lightly trafficked roads, you cycle further through Hesepe and past the Brandlecht estate up to the Isterberg. Enjoy a walk to the natural rock formations. After climbing the steps of the observation tower, you will be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view.
Along the Syen Venn, a large nature reserve, you go almost car-free across the border into the Netherlands. The route leads through the Lutterzand nature reserve to Denekamp, where you should treat yourself to a “Koffie” after a shopping tour. Via the Molendijk, you ride past Singgraven Castle with the old water mill – with its ancient beech forests and idyllic water landscapes, perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of the Fietsentour. Over the Nordhorn-Almelo Canal, past the Schuivenhuisje (see description of route 16), it goes completely car-free back to Vechtesee in Nordhorn.
