Gitschtal cycle path R3b
Author’s recommendation
- The R3b can also be perfectly combined with the R3 or the R3a. The variants meet at the L25 in Hermagor or at the Gail bridge in Möderndorf.
- Depending on skills and type of bike, the outbound or return route along the mountain bike trail HP9 is also a very beautiful option.
- With the family cycling route R3b, the valley connects to the extensive 800 km large cycle network of the region.
-
You can also use the bus from Hermagor back to Weißbriach - or also in the opposite direction.

Roadbook
Weißbriach - St.Lorenzen in Gitschtal - Jadersdorf - Grünburg - Obermöschach - Hermagor
Starting/ending point:
From the town hall in Weißbriach you start by cycling a short distance along the B87 (towards Kreuzberg/Weissensee) - at the first opportunity you turn right into the side street. Then you cycle southeast, between the Protestant church and the cemetery, along the marked cycle path that leads through wooded sections and open spaces. At the following junctions, you always stay on the path, which runs almost parallel to the Gössering, to the left of the stream.
Then you reach St. Lorenzen in Gitschtal - you cycle straight ahead, continuing southeast, through the town. Then you cross two streams, reach the houses of Jadersdorf, and turn right at the first fork in the village. You reach the junction of the side street with the B87, where you turn left.
From here the cycle path runs along the B87, through the villages of Grünburg and Obermöschach, further to Untermöschach, until Hermagor. Upon arriving in Hermagor, you turn left/straight ahead at the first right curve from the B87 into the side road. You cycle down the street past the Catholic church until you reach Gasserplatz where you turn left and follow the street. The route takes you over the Gössering - at the second opportunity after the bridge you turn right and continue to the station, where you turn right over the B111. You reach the roundabout where you take the third exit and continue south.
After crossing the railway tracks, you reach another junction - from here the R3a continues to the left via the side street, and thus you have reached the end of the Gitschtal cycle path.
Return route:
The return route follows the same route as the outbound route. The stated time covers the duration of the outbound trip but not the return trip.
