Getting-to-know round Scharbeutz
This bike route for the whole family leads over the promenade along the beach and then swings through the fishing village of Haffkrug into the inland.
Past one of the smallest airfields in Germany, the Sierksdorf/Hof Altona airfield, where gyrocopter scenic flights are also offered, the route continues to Hof Altona, where we turn south. Soon the Pönitzer See opens up before us, where we can take a refreshing swim in the lake.
Then we head back towards the beach, passing through Kammerwald. There is a high ropes course with varying levels of difficulty.
Then we have two bathing options: in summer in the Baltic Sea, or on cooler days at the Ostsee-Therme with a large slide, sauna and fun area, located directly on the beach.
To finish, we come back over the Seebrückenvorplatz to Scharbeutz. There you will find cafés, restaurants, ice cream parlors, and a beach lounge.

We start at the Tourist Information Scharbeutz heading north, passing the Bayside Hotel, cycling on the bike path to Haffkrug and continuing within sight of the Baltic Sea (Am Strande) up to just before Sierksdorf. We take the first turn next to a snack bar to the left onto a hill up to Hof Altona. Shortly before, we see the small airfield on the left side. Here we can change our mode of transport and take a scenic flight over the Lübeck Bay. Gyrocopter flights are also possible here. Gyrocopters are somewhat like convertibles with rotor blades.
At the intersection, we cycle left continuing on Siedenkamp. On the right side, we look over Taschensee and cycle through Gronenberg. At the town’s exit, we need to be careful as a sharp right-left curve follows. A short stretch later, we stand before the federal road crossing our route. To cross, we use the press-button traffic light and continue cycling over Seestraße and Uhlenflucht to Klingberg. On the right, there is an opportunity to refresh yourself at Café Klingberg. We then cycle on to the “Restaurant zum Moorteich,” where we turn left. Now we simply follow the cycling route up to the Klingberg Residence, after passing which we turn left onto a paved side street.
Under the A 1 motorway, we arrive at Kiepenberg, a district of Scharbeutz. If we haven’t missed a cycle route sign, we arrive at Luschendorfer Straße. Here we again use the press-button traffic light, cycle left over the railway bridge and carefully ride downhill to the station. We then follow “Am Bürgerhaus” street and turn right into Kammerweg. Now it’s straight ahead into the Eutin State Forest. Two signs with clear arrows (right) guide us to the high ropes course, which is located after a short distance on the left side among large trees.
After climbing in the forest high ropes course, we cycle straight ahead to an unpaved car park, where we turn left and cycle to the press-button traffic light. On the left side, we can already see the Ostsee-Therme, which we reach with just a few pedal strokes.
Back to the Tourist Information, we cycle on the bike path to Scharbeutz, which offers us a magnificent view over the Lübeck Bay and surely tempts some to stop at one of the many establishments next to the bike path. After 21 km, we reach the destination.
