Roadbook
The stage begins in the romantic half-timbered town of Eberbach. From there, it heads toward Neckarelz. At the town entrance, the bike path is especially charming as it runs directly along the Elz. Afterwards, we cycle along the Neckar to Hochhausen. Behind the village, the Half-Timbered Road leads over a slightly more demanding but short ascent. However, the following downhill ride compensates immediately.
Then it continues toward Haßmersheim, passing Hornberg Castle. Once one of the largest inland shipping locations in southwest Germany, Haßmersheim was an important starting point for Neckar shipping that extended from here into the Rhine. Upon arriving in Neckarmühlbach, a visit to the Staufer fortress Guttenberg is recommended. Besides the medieval castle with its museum, the birds of prey show is also worth seeing.
On the bike path toward Gundelsheim, there is a spot with two benches where we can enjoy views of Horneck Palace as well as Guttenberg Castle. On the way to Heinsheim, we pass Ehrenberg Castle. In Bad Wimpfen, there is a brine spa offering a refreshing break. The wonderful viewpoints and cozy small cafes are best discovered on foot. A nearby rest area offers a view of Bad Friedrichshall, located above the Neckar.
From Untereisesheim, the route heads toward Heilbronn, also called the “Swabian Tuscany.” Located amid vineyards, the city impresses with its variety. The route leaves the Neckar and continues along the Lein. Following the route, we reach the Eichbott lakes. We continue to Schwaigern, where the Lein Valley zoo or the outdoor pool offer a good stopover. Via Gemmingen with its magnificent palace park, we continue to Eppingen. The old town with its historic market square marks the end of the stage.
