Round route starting/ending at Burg-Hotel Heiligenberg.
Along the Fulda from Melsungen to the Eder mouth. Along the Eder to Felsberg-Gensungen
The route starts and ends at Burghotel Heiligenberg. This is also the highest point (approx. 340 m above sea level) of the route.
To avoid the B253 at the A7 underpass, our route begins with a short walk through the forest directly behind the hotel. First, it goes 3 km downhill to Heßlar. In the process, we cross over or under the A7. Up to Heßlar, we have lost almost 100 meters of elevation.
In the next 2 km, we regain 80 of those meters, then over the next 3 km, we reach our average traveling height of about 150 m above sea level again.
After approximately 8 km, we reach the Fulda at Melsungen. Here is time for a break at Cafe zur Traube or Cafe Krone.
The old town is worth a visit.
Our route now leads left downstream along the Fulda through quiet terrain. The towns Schwarzenberg and Röhrenfurth lie on the opposite side of the Fulda.
At Lobenhausen (km 16), there would be the option to cross the Fulda to get to Körle. However, the bridge at Wagenfurth is closed (05/2022), and one would have to drive on the B83 to Grebenau to get back to the left river side. We continue on the left side to Grebenau, accepting a short steep climb.
Then we follow the loop and shortly before Büchenwerra (km 21.6), we switch to the right side of the Fulda. In Büchenwerra, we take a break in the beer garden right on the Fulda.
We continue along the Fulda and arrive at Cuxhagen. Then we cross under the A7 again and go a few hundred meters uphill. We leave the Fulda briefly to cross it again at km 28.
Now we ride the Fulda a short distance upstream and arrive at the Eder mouth at km 30.
We ride upstream along the Eder through the towns Grifte, Haldorf, and Wolfershausen to Neuenbrunslar (km 40). There is a beer garden here.
Here, there is an option to take a shortcut via Mittelhof to reach Heiligenberg after 5 km.
Our route continues to Felsberg (km 44). We cross the Eder and reach Gensungen.
From km 46 comes the mountain classification. In the last 2 km of the route, 200 meters altitude must be overcome. Anyone who wants to can do this. The others pack their bikes into the cars provided in the morning.

Mostly very good cycle paths and little trafficked country roads.
The way between Wolfershausen and Neuenbrunslar is, however, very poor
