We start route number 4 in Sumpfohren, the smallest district of Hüfingen. In Sumpfohren, the battlemented tower with a stork's nest, regularly inhabited by a pair of storks, greets from afar. From Sumpfohren, the path leads to the district of Fürstenberg. After a fire in 1841 destroyed the entire medieval town with the castle as the seat of the Fürstenberg Landgrave of the Baar on the plateau of the Fürstenberg, the town was rebuilt at the southwestern foot of the 918 m high mountain as a strict neoclassical overall layout in the form of an axial cross.
Those with sufficient strength reserves can now take a detour from Fürstenberg to the mountain of the same name. For this, we ride past the cemetery and partly along the "Geographical Educational Path Fürstenberg." The ascent to the mountain is with a considerable incline. The "Historical Educational Path Fürstenberg" informs on the mountaintop near the Augustinian chapel about the archaeological and historical connections on the highest mountain of the Baar. A magnificent view over the Baar, in good weather up to the Black Forest and the Swiss Alps, compensates for the strenuous ride to the Fürstenberg. Via the access road, it goes back down to Fürstenberg. After this strenuous but rewarding detour, route number 4 now continues along the southern mountainside to the district of Schächer. From here, the route runs through the forest past the Wendthütte to Neudingen. A shorter variant leads directly from Schächer to Neudingen. Here we pass the impressive crypt church of the Princes of Fürstenberg with its widely visible dome building. Then we cycle back to Sumpfohren.
