This pleasant bike route leads from Basel along the Rhine to Rheinfelden. It is also part of the national bike route No. 2, the "Rhine Route."
For centuries, the High Rhine was the most important waterway in Switzerland. Since 1803, it has formed the national border over long stretches, but never as a dividing ditch; numerous bridges and ferries connected both banks and strengthened relations with Swabia and the Upper Rhine Plain. This allowed a number of towns to develop. Since the 19th century, hydropower has been harnessed through impressive power plants. The power plant island in Birsfelden invites you to picnic and bathing fun. And best of all by bike! While ships chug by on the water, sunbathing, picnicking and a refreshing bath in the Rhine are on the green lawn. Then you happily and refreshed continue upstream to the Feldschlösschen town of Rheinfelden.
