You cycle along an old narrow-gauge railway line in a very scenic location along the northern ridges of the Thuringian Basin between Kölleda and Rastenberg or Lossa.
The open country bike path uses the former route of the Finnebahn. It was operated as an industrial and passenger railway from 1914 to 1947. The route runs along stream meadows on the northern edge of the Thuringian Basin. The route is currently passable between Kölleda and Rastenberg or Lossa at the Finne. From Kölleda, the western connection to the Unstrut Cycle Path is successful. From Lossa, you are already in the Saale-Unstrut Triassic Land.
The route offers beautiful distant views over the Thuringian Basin. In the distance, the impressive silhouette of the Thuringian Forest can be admired. The great biodiversity of the open land impresses the eyes and ears in a special way. Birdlife and vegetation of the calcareous grasslands are outstanding features of this dry Mediterranean landscape, which around Rastenberg can refer to a complex settlement history.
With the Streitseebad Kölleda and the old forest swimming pool Rastenberg, there are two cooling options during the summer season.
Author’s recommendation
Along the route is the adventure hiking region Hohe Schrecke. A rather short detour to the Spiegelarche in Roldisleben is also worthwhile.

Roadbook
The route is very well signposted between Kölleda and Lossa or Rastenberg. Along the way, there are several resting places and shelters.
In Großmonra, a detour via the local connecting road to Burgwenden to the Finnestübchen is worthwhile - at least on weekends! At the Finneck fork, you can turn off to the former spa town of Rastenberg. The historic forest swimming pool invites you to linger again from 2025 after a complete renovation (including gastronomy).
Public transport: Boarding and alighting are possible from Leubingen/Unstrut (DB) or in Kölleda (Pfefferminzbahn).
