The Federbach is an approximately 42 km long stream between Karlsruhe and Rastatt. The source area of the Federbach lies in the municipality of Malsch on the edge of the Northern Black Forest. Unlike other rivers that run through the right Upper Rhine Plain, the Federbach initially flows southwest from Malsch through the Federbruch nature reserve, a bog and wetland area between Malsch and Muggensturm, and then west at Muggensturm. After entering the Rhine valley near Ötigheim, it flows north and empties into the Alb in the Karlsruhe district of Maxau.

Roadbook
The starting point of the route is at the train station in Malsch. From the train station, proceed via Albert-Schweitzer-Straße to the street "Am Häfing", where you turn right. Immediately after the community center, turn left onto the paved path that leads through the community park to the street "Am Federbach". There you meet the Rhine Valley bike path, which you follow turning right towards Muggensturm.
The bike path signage leads you through the Federbachbruch to Muggensturm. After Muggensturm, continue to follow the signage of the Rhine Valley bike path. When the Rhine Valley bike path at the model airfield between Muggensturm and Ötigheim branches left towards Baden-Baden, continue straight ahead on the MÖBS bike path. On this very well signposted bike path, you cross the Federbach several times and pass Ötigheim until you reach the entrance to Steinmauern.
In Steinmauern, leave the MÖBS bike path and cycle on the main street to the turnoff Gartenstraße, where you turn right. After 300 m, turn right onto Bruchweg street. This street leads to a paved country road (keep left at the fork) which you now follow always northwards. In the forest, you meet the MÖBS bike path again, which you follow for only about 400 m. Then turn left at a crossroads onto a paved path leading to the K 3737 road.
At the Rheinwald waterworks, shortly after crossing K 3737, turn right. After crossing the Federbach at the sports ground in Bietigheim, turn left onto the Federbach path leading to Durmersheim.
In Durmersheim, which you reach via the street "Am Oberwald", turn left onto Römerstraße and after 300 m right onto Waldstraße. At the end of this street, continue on the bike path along Malscher Straße (L 608) via Neumalsch back to Malsch, where you return to the starting point of the route via Daimlerstraße, Boschstraße and Otto-Eckerle-Straße.
