Picturesque moated castles, enchanted forests, impressive avenues – this themed route leads to the most beautiful noble estates in the northern district of Vechta. At the castles and estates, lovingly preserved works of old master builders await us, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the time of knights, castlemen, and counts.
The route can be divided – it can also be done over 2 days with an overnight stay in Dinklage or Vechta.
We start at one of the oldest moated castles in the Oldenburg Münsterland, Burg Dinklage. It today houses a monastery. The ensemble with the castle chapel from the 19th century is picturesquely situated in the 27-hectare castle forest. With circular trails, a game enclosure, and a playground, it is a versatile excursion destination. We ride through the Brockdorfer Moor to Gut Daren, which has been documented as a castle site since 1432. To this day, the family of the original builder von Frydag lives in the manor house from 1752. The associated private brick museum can be visited by prior arrangement.
In LANGFÖRDEN we visit the imposing double-tower church St. Laurentius with the bell tower from around 1011 and then make a small detour to Gut Bomhof. First mentioned around 1426, this manor is one of the oldest noble estates in the region. Since 1814 it has been owned by the von Fricken family.
Via HAGSTEDT and ASTRUP we reach Gut Füchtel in VECHTA. The 14th-century moated castle is known as a training and breeding facility for highly awarded Oldenburg horses. Shortly thereafter we rest at the former manor house Welpe from 1645, which today houses a restaurant with a beer garden. Children enjoy the playground here, parents enjoy the view of the mill pond.
Refreshed, we pass the Gut Welpe golf course along quiet moor paths to LOHNE and visit the octagonal water mill in the city park. Visible from afar is Lohne’s landmark: the tower of St. Gertrud's church. Burg Hopen was built at the beginning of the 16th century and is today privately owned. The dense Hopener city forest with its ponds and avenues is appreciated by the people of Lohne as a recreation area. Children are in their element at the large forest playground Rehwiese. The forest nature trail is already an experience for the little ones.
Passing the Gut Brettberg golf club, we make our way back to DINKLAGE via the centuries-old, newly expanded path system “From Castle to Castle.”

At Mäuseturmsee in Bakum Harme, there is a good place to rest. There is a picnic area and numerous benches with a view of the lake. The fish and bird nature trail introduces the biotope.
