Route description
The starting point of the route description is at the Town Hall in Wolmirstedt. Since the route is planned as a circular route, it can also be started at any other place you like.
The path leads from the Town Hall along Bahnhofstraße past the station towards Glindenberger Chaussee out of the town.
Shortly after reaching the Ohre, the direction abruptly changes to north to cycle along the picturesque Ohre bank towards Loitsche.
Here you can experience nature up close and there are always spots where you can stop to enjoy the impressions of this landscape.
Just beyond Loitsche, which lies directly in front of the slag heap of the Zielitz munitions factory, you reach the northernmost point of the route at the Rogätz Hang - Ohre estuary nature reserve.
Continuing southwards, the route now follows the Elbe upstream to Heinrichsberg, where there is a resting place directly on the Elbe where you can take a break.
After the break, the route continues through the floodplain forest to Glindenberg.
For those who still have enough energy and the technically interested among you, a short detour to the Rothensee boat lift and to the waterways crossing of the Mittelland Canal over the Elbe is naturally recommended.
To do this, you cross the Elbe on the northern side of the Mittelland Canal and cycle back on the southern side to the Rothensee boat lift.
Experience the impressions of a ship locking here and enjoy the view from the observation tower at the lock.
Back on the actual circular route in Glindenberg, a visit to the Nikolai Church is worthwhile, and on the final stage you can again enjoy the nature along the Ohre.
The Wolmirstedt castle estate invites you to linger once again at the end of the route before you reach the starting point again.
