Roadbook
We start at the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and cycle along the Grüner Pfad, a former railway line, straight ahead towards Meiderich. There, the North Loop takes us through residential areas away from the main road through the district. Finally, we pass a training ground of MSV Duisburg and reach the Rhein-Herne Canal. After a small climb, a bridge leads us over the canal. Once on the other side, our route then continues along various bodies of water. Along the way, we cross the connection canal and the Ruhr.
At the Kasslerfelder roundabout, there is a connection to the South Loop of the Duisburger 8. To stay on the North Loop, we take the connecting ramp and cycle over the Karl-Lehr bridge complex towards the port district Ruhrort. We pass through the district and enjoy the views along the harbor promenade in Ruhrort. At Mühlenweide, we cross the Rhine on the Friedrich-Ebert Bridge.
Attention, detour: Due to the closure of the historic lift bridge over the Rheinpreußen harbor, after crossing the Rhine, we stay on Rheindeichstraße and turn right after a little over one kilometer onto Dammstraße. This detour is already considered in the track.
On the left Rhine side section of the North Loop, a significantly more rural atmosphere awaits us. On narrow bike paths, we first cycle through the Rhine meadows until we move in front of the Rhine bridge of the A 42 towards the Rheinpreußen spoil heap. The route leads us past the spoil heap. However, a climb is worthwhile. For this, we stay on Gutenbergstraße and turn right at the roundabout onto the access road to the spoil heap. At the top, we enjoy the view of the Duisburg North skyline.
Always with a view of the right Rhine industrial panorama, the North Loop takes us through the village-like district of Baerl via Binsheim to Orsoy. There, the ferry takes us back across the Rhine to Walsum (ferry times to be observed!).
Past the Walsum power plant, we continue cycling towards the HOAG industrial railway route. On the way, a short detour to the Walsum South harbor is worth it. The HOAG route now leads us westwards without crossings through several districts until we leave the route at the Wehofen colliery settlement and cycle south past Revierpark Mattlerbusch to the Kleine Emscher.
We follow the Kleine Emscher for several kilometers and then turn right. Now the North Loop takes us through the Bergmannsplatz settlement and a passage through a driveable pedestrian zone. At the end of the pedestrian zone, we turn left and after a few hundred meters along the main street turn right again. After a short stretch through an industrial area, we meet the Grüner Pfad again. Here we do not cross the bridge but keep left to then turn right onto the path that leads us back to Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord.
