Hops have been grown in the district of Pfaffenhofen for centuries.
In autumn and winter, the plants are bare and silent, but they come back to life in spring. Month by month, you can watch the hop vines climbing. The "green gold," as hops is affectionately called here, can be experienced in its finest form from July to September.
Starting from Geisenfeld, accompanied by lush green hop gardens, we travel via Untermettenbach and Rottenegg to Hüll to the Hop Research Center. Since the 1920s, research has been conducted here to provide hop growers with the best possible support in cultivation, care, and breeding of the "green gold." The tour continues to Wolnzach, where we pass the parish church of St. Laurentius, the Wolnzach town hall, and the Hop Museum. We take time for a short rest and a visit to the museum. The large interactive exhibition teaches us all the interesting facts about hops. Also, on the further route via Niederlauterbach and Parleiten back to Geisenfeld, the hop vines, some up to 8 meters high, line the path and spread their typical scent.
