The Mostviertel is especially beautiful in the second half of April when the pear trees are in bloom.
1 km west of Ludwigsdorf there is a viewpoint.
From here wonderful view south to the mountains (picture 5).
To enjoy the view north (Zeillern, Kollmitzberg...) (panorama, picture 6), walk 200 m under the motorway towards Zeillern!

The Öhlermüllerin - Legend and Reality
by Franz Steinkellner
One of the best-known historical narratives of the western Mostviertel is that of the three women who were supposedly kidnapped by the Turks in 1529. After several years of captivity in Constantinople, they managed to escape and return to their homeland. The title heroine of the story is the Öhlermüllerin. The name comes from the Öhlinger or Öhlermühle, a parish and community in Öhling. When the mounted Turkish raiding party approached, she ran in fear and despair to the nearby chapel, where she was seized by the Turks coming from the direction of Neuhofen.
Two other women, the "Reintaler Tini" (Reintal, parish and community Zeillern) and the "Empfinger Lisi" (Empfing, parish Stephanshart) were also kidnapped and abducted by the Turks at that time. In Constantinople, they were sold at the slave market to a nobleman. After several years of captivity, an earthquake provided the opportunity to escape, which the three women together with a black servant named Zoe seized. The return to their homeland took one year. Zoe died from the hardships. The Öhlermüller is said to have remarried in the meantime. The second woman wanted to immediately give up her place to the returning woman, but considering her weakened health and her imminent death, she refrained from further living together with her husband, moved to her friend, and died soon afterwards. She is said to be buried in Zeillern.
This story is still told in this and similar forms today. It is not surprising that there are various versions in folklore. The narrative has appeared twice in print as a calendar story and was twice chosen as the subject of a play of the same name, once by the former pastor Geist! Rat Brückler of Winklarn and a second time by Josef Schadenhofer from Zeillern. Both plays were repeatedly performed in the area and repeatedly sparked interest in the story. Two memorials also commemorate the event: the Turkish martyr cross near Ludwigsdorf and the Öhlermüller chapel in Öhling.

0.0/0.0 Start commuter parking lot motorway exit Amstetten West.
7.0/7.0 On the (lightly trafficked) B 1, 7 km westwards, past Boxhofen, through Ludwigsdorf to Reitsberg, where the motorway is passed underneath. 600 m after the underpass, turn right before the Lammerhuber car dealership.
6.8/13.8 After 100 m turn right again (sign towards Zeillern). After 200 m the priority road turns right to Zeillern, we take the left street and cycle over the hill to Edla and Gebetsberg.
We ignore the streets to the right (to Zeillern), leave the junction to the left (to Albersberg) and continue straight ahead.
Downhill to Moos, in Moos turn right and we reach Empfing.
3.5/17.3 In Empfing briefly left, then straight down into the Au and out to the resettler memorial stone.
From there right onto the Danube Cycle Path towards Markt Ardagger.
Cross the B 119 and straight ahead to the intersection in Markt Ardagger.
2.2/19.5 The Danube Cycle Path turns left, we cycle (on the marked Kollmitzberg cycle route) right briefly through the town, then along the B 119 to Stift Ardagger.
Before Stift Ardagger we cross the B 119, then another 200 m flat on the signposted cycle path.
0.8/20.3 The Kollmitzberg cycle path goes left uphill to the abbey, from there comes the Mostbaron cycle route.
We follow this 800 m to the right, uphill to Pfaffenberg.
2.5/22.8 The Mostbaron cycle route turns right here (Stephanshart), we cycle straight ahead in Pfaffenberg with a pleasant climb.
After 1.1 km we reach a junction with a chapel, we cycle left and come back to the B 119 near the Ardagger industrial area.
2.4/25.2 We turn right, now comes the only busy section of our round, 1.7 km on the B 119, then turn right at the intersection and 700 m on the former B 1 to the roundabout with the giant pears.
Take the 2nd exit and 100 m to the starting point.

Public transport
Public-transport-friendly
Amstetten is located on the Westbahn between the Lower Austrian capital St. Pölten and the Upper Austrian capital Linz.
To the south, the Rudolf Railway branches off towards Waidhofen and the Ennstal. Regional trains with bicycle transport every hour from all directions.
As the starting point for the bike round I chose the motorway exit Amstetten West.
The motorway exit is reachable by bike from the station in the shortest 4 km over the former B1 (Linzerstraße).
A lot of traffic and 2 km uphill! (the dotted route on the last picture).
For the outbound journey I recommend taking the right, northern route (4 km):
After the main square at the roundabout turn right B 119 towards Ardagger-Grein.
After 200 m turn left into Edlastraße, through Edlapark, Gutenbergstraße, left into Guido Holzknecht-Straße, in Brandströmstraße left to the Gschirm junction, left again and flat to Greiner Bundesstraße B 119, left onto this to the former B 1, right to the roundabout with the pears, take the 2nd exit, immediately afterwards right to the commuter parking lot, our starting point.
This route is 6 km long, the hills are flatter and better distributed (the route is seen on the last picture as the right route).
For the return journey (to the station) I recommend taking the western route.
For this, drive 100 m west on the B 1 from the commuter parking lot.
Turn left to Haaberg.
After 1.7 km pleasant downhill we come to the B 1, stay 400 m (behind the noise barrier) on the right of the busy road, then sharp left into the underpass.
After the underpass immediately left along the creek from OBI to the main road.
On this 100 m left, then right railway underpass.
We are now on the Ybbstal Cycle Path and follow this left to the station.
This route is 5 km long, flat downhill, almost no traffic (this route is seen on the last picture as the left route).
