Starting and ending point of the approximately 50-kilometer circular route is the Historic Town Hall of the more than 1000-year-old district town of Jerichower Land Burg (near Magdeburg). The circular route leads through the districts of Parchau and Ihleburg to Zerben, where Elisabeth Freiin von Plotho - the historical model for Theodor Fontane's "Effi Briest" - once lived in its castle. Behind Zerben, the circular route joins the Elberadweg, which you then follow southwards. Further stations of the circular route include the NABU Nature Experience Park Blumenthal and the old lock Niegripp before returning to the starting point of the route.
The approximately 50-kilometer circular route around Burg begins on Breiter Weg at the Historic Town Hall of the town of Burg. The path leads over Berliner Straße directly past the church "Unser Lieben Frauen". The church, first mentioned in documents in 1186, is part of the Romanesque Road. Nearby are the historic towers of Burg: the Hexenturm, the Kuh- or Freiheitsturm, and the Berliner Torturm. The half-timbered house at Berliner Straße 38 is the oldest documented residential building in the town and today houses the city library, which is the venue for numerous cultural events. With great momentum, the route now goes down Koloniestraße into the green Elbe foreland on the outskirts of Burg. After passing through the districts of Parchau and Ihleburg, you reach the village of Zerben where you can follow in the footsteps of Effi Briest. Born in 1853 at Zerben Castle, Elisabeth von Ardenne was the real-life model for the famous novel character in Theodor Fontane's eponymous novel. The castle still recalls her life, love, and suffering. Behind Zerben, the circular route joins the Elberadweg, Germany's most popular cycle path. In the middle of the biosphere reserve "Flusslandschaft Elbe" you reach the NABU Nature Experience Park Blumenthal after about half the distance. On an area of 10 hectares you will find various biotopes, orchard meadows, a zoo, a playground, and much more. During the holidays, various activities for children take place here, and affordable overnight accommodations are available for cyclists. At the old lock Niegripp, you leave the Elberadweg. The tourist rest area with the repurposed towboat "Olaf" invites you to take a break before returning to Burg. Back in Burg, the circular route passes the train station along Goethepark, which will be part of the 2018 State Garden Show. Upon arrival at the Town Hall, the drummer of Burg greets you with his legendary sounds.
