Route overview
Experience the Bode in its natural state up close.
This route virtually follows the banks of the Bode from Thale to its confluence with the Saale at Nienburg.
Since many natural paths are included in the cycle route, especially in the upper course of the Bode, good cycling skills are necessary.
Nature lovers and adventurers will fully enjoy this experience.
Those who do not want to travel back in the opposite direction or by train to Thale are offered an alternative return route via the EuroVelo 1 cycle route.

Route description
The starting point of the route description is the train station in Thale.
From the starting point, the route leads through Thale past the town hall with the Fountain of Wisdom to Wendhusen Monastery. Here follows a steep ascent to a hill from which you have a magnificent view of Thale and the region.
On natural paths, the route then leads along the Bode and continues to the Devil's Wall and Marienhof.
Soon after, you reach Quedlinburg and should make a detour to the historic old town there. Representative of the many sights are the town hall, castle, and Münzenberg.
The route then continues past Ditfurt Lake to Hedersleben, where you cross the Selke. Those with sufficient stamina can take a short detour to the Selke estuary here.
Via Wegeleben and Deesdorf, you then reach Gröningen with the St. Vitus Monastery Church, and at St. Martini Church there is an information point about the city's sights.
Krottorf is the next place, and on the further way to Wulferstedt, you move slightly away from the Bode to return to it shortly before Oschersleben.
Past the castle and pigeon tower, you reach the town center with the town hall and St. Nicolai Church.
Through the meadow park with the so-called German Corner, you leave Oschersleben and proceed on the long section with cobblestones to Hadmersleben, where a short detour to the monastery is recommended.
Sometimes close and sometimes farther away, the route follows the Bode past Etgersleben, Unseburg, and Egeln to Rothenförde with the Rothenförde Weir information point.
Just a stone’s throw further is Löderburg Lake, and shortly thereafter you enjoy an impressive view of Gänsefurther Castle.
Arriving at the outskirts of Staßfurt, you switch at a weir to the right side of the Bode and cycle along the bank with a magnificent view of St. Petri into the town.
An interesting floodplain landscape now accompanies you on the further way to Hohenerxleben with the eponymous castle.
On natural paths, it continues to Neugattersleben, and past the castle, you come onto the way that leads you to Nienburg.
In Nienburg, on the market square, you find not only the town hall but also the carillon and a little further the monastery church of St. Mary and St. Cyprian, from where you have a magnificent view of the Bode valley.
At the end of the route, it goes briskly downhill to the Bode bridge to then reach the goal of this impressive cycling route at the Bode estuary.
