On our bike route we get to know the wild river in the east of the Mühlviertel.
Author’s recommendation
The ascent along the Naarn and the descent through the Käfermühlbach valley are mostly shaded by trees, so this route can also be cycled in summer heat. There are wonderful bathing spots!
The bike route is very easily accessible by bike from the Amstetten and St Valentin area.
It then extends by the approach and return journey.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

Safety information
For example, between Lisbon and Porto the infrastructure is not yet well developed. The stages from one accommodation to the next can be correspondingly long and adventurous.Tips and suggestions
In the Käfermühl valley you can visit the Saxenegg ruin (on foot) (follow signs). The climb takes about 20 minutes.
Only sparse remains of the ruin are visible.
Good views are not available because the ruin is surrounded by dense forest.

0.0/0.0 Start at Perg Schulzentrum train station
1.4/1.4 Right at the Schulzentrum train station we cross the railway and cycle 400 m towards the town center, then turn left and after another 400 m turn right.
After another 300 m we cross the main road (former B3), cycle 300 m to the right, cross the Naarn and arrive at L572, which we follow upstream along the Naarn (to the left).
5.5/6.9 The road runs upstream on the right side of the Naarn, with a large quarry on the left.
On the right we see the Kuchlmühle guesthouse, here we switch to the left side of the Naarn.
Further on to the impressive Falkenstein, a beautiful rock formation, where the Naarn forms the Falkenstein cataract.
5.4/12.3 Soon the lower Naarn gorge ends, after a short flat section the next gorge begins, it continues gently ascending until the next flat section, here the road to Rechberg branches off to the right.
2.7/15.0 We stay on the Naarn and tackle the third gorge, which ends at the nice inn Raabmühle, shortly after a road junction:
left to Bad Zell, right to Pierbach.
2.6/17.6 We cycle towards Pierbach along gently hilly terrain always to the right of the here very flat meandering Große Naarn until near Tobermühle (about 1 km before Pierbach) a road branches off towards St. Thomas.
1.9/19.5 We take the right towards St. Thomas, first flat, then uphill, and finally some switchbacks, until a farm track branches off to the right into the Käfermühlbach valley.
Of course, you can also continue cycling uphill and visit St. Thomas.
Then there is the possibility to descend directly from St. Thomas into the Käfermühlbach valley (western entrance about 1 km before St. Thomas).
5.6/25.1 We take this turn, it goes gently to steeply downhill always along the Käfermühlbach (at km 24.5 on the right the Saxenegg ruins) until the junction with the Pabneukirchen district road.
2.9/28.0 Here we turn right and cycle uphill and downhill until the entrance to Münzbach.
0.8/28.8 At the town entrance we turn left towards the town center, at the main road we turn left to the parish church.
7.0/35.8 Near the parish church we turn right into Friedhofstraße.
This turns into the farm track Roisenberg/Mollnegg, on which we descend mostly gently with wonderful views over the Danube valley, finally alongside the Puchberger Bach to Puchberg im Marchland.
2.8/38.6 Shortly before leaving the village we turn left, cross the B3, later the Danube bank railway, at the chapel near Kirchstetten we continue straight on to Hofstetten.
8.6/47.2 Here we turn right and after about 1.5 km at Wagra reach the Naarn in its lower course, where we now cycle upstream on the right bank.
At km 41.8 the Naarn gauge station at Hoser in the Haid.
Continue along the right bank of the Naarn until shortly before Perg we cross the new B3 bypass road.
Shortly before crossing the railway, turn left over the Naarn and back to the starting point of our bike ride.
